In our current day we are riddled and inundated with bad news. In fact news broadcasters will seldom deliver the kind of news coverage that speaks of anything pertaining to goodwill, or of redeeming value. We have a culture that seems to twitch at the very sound of a scandal or disaster. In the midst of all this, there seems to be a deliberate silencing of the good news, that is the gospel message that speaks of the fact that God has sent His Son into the world to save the lost.

Indeed, this is good news, in that those who are destitute and despondent, can discover a hope that cannot be extinguished. So while there is news of wars and terrorism, and while there may be global panic as a result of diseases such as Ebola, the world should never forget the fact that God remains the ultimate sustainer of life and joy.

Jesus Christ has also promised to return to this world, and as such He demands that we live our lives as though His return could be at any moment, for Scripture describes His return as a thief who comes in the night. The idea here is not to catch anyone off guard, but a call to vigilance and to mark those who faithfully do the things that God requires whether He comes tomorrow or a year from now.
